Anglican Church Grammar School students will learn a lot more about earth science and how this discipline can lead to some interesting and rewarding careers when they take part in a Science Week workshop run by the Queensland Minerals and Energy Academy (QMEA) today.

Resources sector geologists will take part in an online webinar for more than 200 Year 8 students, which will extend their understanding of earth sciences.

The event will focus on geology and mining operations with students taking part in a rock identification activity after the webinar.

“It’s very important for students to relate their classroom learning to the outside world and this event offers a snapshot of how science is used beyond the schoolroom,” said ACGS’s Deputy Headmaster Richard Wheeldon.

“It’s the first time the school has taken part in an online QMEA activity and we’re all very much looking forward to it,” he said.
