Did you know that 1 in every 8 jobs in Queensland is supported by the resources sector? If you didn’t, you’re not alone. The YouthInsight survey conducted in 2018 identified a lack of knowledge amongst secondary students about the resources sector and, in turn, many did not see resources, and its associated sectors, as potential pathway for them.
The twilight event is aimed at providing Guidance Officers and secondary school teachers with the necessary tools and information about resources careers so that they feel comfortable advising students about careers in the sector.
Attendees at the event will receive an Oresome Futures booklet as well as a guided tour of the new Oresome Futures online careers interactive. Together, these resources will provide attendees with a greater appreciation of the breadth of opportunities available to students.
The evening will also consist of a panel discussion where a selection of representatives from the resources industry will speak about their own experiences in the sector.
Run by the Queensland Minerals and Energy Academy (QMEA) with the generous support of BHP and the Mining Equipment, Technology and Services (METS) team from the Department of State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning (DSDMIP), this event is a must for anyone who is curious to know more about resources careers in Queensland.
