Students step on the gas
Local university and high school students will don hard hats and safety gear today to experience a day in the life of an LNG employee.
They’ll be up bright and early to catch the crew boat to Curtis Island to spend a day onsite with Santos GLNG employees.
Close to 30 students from Queensland Minerals and Energy Academy (QMEA) schools and Central Queensland University will attend the specially designed program run by QMEA and Santos GLNG, which will showcase the many career opportunities within the gas industry.
Santos GLNG staff will give detailed insights to the world of workplace health and safety as well as recruitment and career building in the sector.
Students will meet a wide range of GLNG staff and hear their personal career stories, study choices and how they managed to start their careers with Santos.
“It is this type of industry exposure that has an enormous impact on the future career and study choices of a young person,” said QMEA’s local project manager Tammy Grady.
“The students here today will benefit from this program for years to come,” she said.
“Exposure to the industry and the people working in it, as well as hearing their personal stories, is invaluable for students at this important stage of their life.”
“A long-term supporter of QMEA, Santos GLNG recognises the value these immersive programs have on both senior high school and university students,” Santos’ Brenton Hawtin, General Manager, Downstream Operations said.
“We are proud to partner with QMEA to encourage young people to consider careers in the oil and gas industry,” he said.
“Our staff are very keen to take part in the day to pass on their knowledge and experience to the students.”
