With final exams now over, two Year 12 students from Central Queensland could get a welcome boost with a university scholarship towards studying courses related to the resources industry.

The scholarships, worth $14,000 each, are being offered by resources company the Jellinbah Group for students from Central Queensland schools – the region where the company operates two mines and much of their workforce lives.

Jellinbah’s Manager – People and Culture, Tania Fitzgerald said the two scholarships had been initiated to help regional students with the cost of starting their university studies.

“Jellinbah is highly invested in supporting young people from our local community,” said Ms Fitzgerald.

“We also believe there are great career opportunities available to students keen on studying areas critical to the future of the mining sector,” he/she said.

“Our hope is these scholarships will give two Year 12 students the extra financial boost they need to commit to their university studies, which will help reduce financial stress on the student and their family.”

The scholarships are for students living in Central Queensland from Emerald through to Yeppoon and undertaking their first year of studies at either CQUniversity or James Cook University in 2026.

Applicants need to be undertaking studies in an area related to the resources industry including engineering, environmental science, digital technology or other STEM-related courses.
