Resources industry celebrates 2026 QMEA Student Ambassadors
The next generation of resource industry innovators and operators have gathered in Brisbane this week to attend a special camp as 2026 Student Ambassadors for the Queensland Minerals and Energy Academy (QMEA).
The twenty ambassadors, coming from across the State, gathered to dive deeper into Queensland’s resources industry and uncover the science, technology and trade careers that could one day be theirs.
Across four action-packed days, the ambassadors have immersed themselves in the world of mining, minerals and energy with the support of Queensland Resources Council (QRC) members and the University of Queensland who have hosted the students throughout the week.
QRC Chief Executive Officer, Janette Hewson, said the 2026 ambassadors were already making a big impression.
“Every one of these students wants to know more about the Queensland’s resources sector and how they can be a part of its future,” Ms Hewson said.
“They’re passionate about STEM and trades and excited by the prospect of building a career in a dynamic industry which is a big player in the future of our local and global economy,” she said.
“Their energy is inspiring and exactly what our future workforce needs.”
The QMEA’s Student Ambassadors were inducted at a special ceremony today with Mr Bryson Head, Assistant Minister for Regional Development, Resources and Critical Minerals a guest speaker at the event.
The QMEA’s outcomes for 2025 were also shared at the event.
In 2025 the QMEA has delivered over 260 school workshops and camps, engaging over 7000 students in the resources sector through their STEM and trade programs.
Ms Hewson said the QMEA was an industry-education initiative making an impact.
“We know more students from QMEA schools go onto studying engineering or technology degrees at university and enter apprenticeships in the industry,” said Ms Hewson.
“I am sure that many of the incoming student ambassadors will be a part of the next wave of secondary students to join our sector in both professional and trade roles.”
