This year the Queensland Minerals and Energy Academy (QMEA) is celebrating 20 years of inspiring young Queenslanders to pursue trade and STEM careers in the resources sector.

The QMEA will celebrate its 20th year with a special series of awards and we encourage QMEA alumni students, educators, schools and current students to apply.

Award winners will be acknowledged for their engagement with the QMEA and will receive a one-off financial reward, trophy and industry recognition. Award winners outside south-east Queensland will also have travel and accommodation included as part of their winners’ package.

There are four award categories, designed to celebrate past and current students from QMEA schools, educators and schools.

• Oresome alumni awards (4 available): For current university students undertaking science, technology, engineering or maths (STEM) studies that will lead to a career in the resources sector. Applicants need to have attended a QMEA secondary school.
• Powerful teacher awards (2 available): For educators who have taught, or are currently teaching, in a QMEA school and can demonstrate a commitment to engaging with the QMEA and inspiring students to follow a VET or STEM pathway into the resources sector.
• Current student awards (2 available): For students currently in Year 10 or 11 at a QMEA school. Applicants need to be studying either trade (VET) subjects or science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) subjects with the intention of joining the resources sector after school as an apprentice or in a professional role after completing university studies.
• QMEA school award (1 available): For a current QMEA school who has demonstrated exceptional leadership and commitment to the QMEA and created real outcomes for students keen to pursue a future career in the resources sector.

The awards will be presented at a celebration event on Tuesday 2 September at the Stamford Plaza in Brisbane.
